Position Description:
Specialty focus in power circuit design. Should have experience with power conversion, DC/DC converters, low voltage DC power supplies, UPS (uninterruptable power supplies) and AC drives.
Serves as technical expert and advisor for engineering management, operating supervision and design personnel regarding complex problems in a major project. May provide financial control or engineering management for a major engineering project or sub-project. Provides expert technical information and counsel on system issues, on designs and operating problems to Engineering units and coordinates such information for a major project. Conceives, develops or reviews new designs and concepts; reviews and approves designs proposed or developed from such considerations as costs, dependability, installation and/or assembly, and suitability. Reviews and approves alternate design proposals. Originates and promotes new and improved designs. Responsible for the management of major Engineering activity or project for completion within Performance Specification, budget, and schedule requirements. Provides advice for preparation of portions of the Project Design Directive and other manuals and bulletins. Reviews or establishes general design requirements for inclusion in the Design Handbook and similar manuals. Establishes and guides design, research and test programs necessary for the solution of current design problems or to improve future design. Advises and confers with suppliers and subcontractors on design requirements and provides them expert technical advice and information. Discusses with suppliers the need of new or substitute equipment or material and develops and evaluates new sources of design and equipment. Keeps currently informed of design trends and new developments. Advises management and the Project Offices of new equipment, materials and processes, and products, which may have present or future application, or of developments which have proven unsatisfactory.
