    Employer Description Indicator

    Our Mission

    Our mission is to create a place of lifelong learning where people, from young child to senior citizen, embrace science as a way of knowing about themselves, their community, and their world.

    Our Commitment

    We have an unyielding commitment to providing experiences and environments where people:

    • participate in joyful, enlightening experiences that nurture a sense of wonder, touch the heart, and expand the mind;
    • recognize that the results of scientific inquiry and technological innovation profoundly influence the way we work, communicate with one another, stay healthy, and play;
    • adapt to changes in the workplace and in everyday life by acquiring skills shared by the sciences and the arts;
    • act as informed and effective citizens of our communities, addressing the challenges that face society.

    Our Core Values

    Serving people and community is the driving force behind everything we do.

    Our primary measures of success are enthusiastic users, engaged stakeholders, and committed partners. We provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity. We embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business. We recognize that financial well-being is essential to carrying out our mission and ensuring our future success.

    Hiring Information Indicator

      After receiving your application, it is passed on to the hiring manager of the position.  That person will review all applications (usually gathered in a 2-3 week period) and begin scheduling interviews after review.  Depending on the level of the position, more than one interview may be required.  For full-time positions, we average 6-8 weeks from opening the position to the first day of the new hire.

      1. We're a science museum! On their breaks, people make origami, walk through our Butterfly House and go watch black bears swimming in their pool.
      2. We are a beloved institution in our community and working here automatically makes you a rock star in the eyes of many.
      3. Our Executive Leadership is committed to keeping a solid work-life balance and works hard to maintain that for all staff.
      4. We encourage all staff to follow their own curiosity and be life-long learners.
      5. There are lots of opportunities to be involved in cross-department committees, so people can try different tasks as they are interested.
      1. The most successful employees are very flexible and willing to pitch in when needed.
      2. While our salaries are fair, you will never make as much at a non-profit as you will at a for profit. You might sleep better, though.
      3. We believe all employees should have a voice so you might encounter people giving advice who have little to no experience in your field.
      4. Snakes and spiders, not to mention lots of other reptiles and bugs, call the Museum home. Not all jobs require encounters with them but they are there.
      5. There are always small children here and it is seldom a quiet place (even in your office)!
