Employer Description
We are an online service created to connect students. Using classified listings, students can:
- Buy and Sell old textbooks
- Upload and Share notes, study guides, and supplemental learning material with classmates
Students at Loyola University New Orleans became aware of a growing problem facing college students. Books were getting too expensive, and students deserved an alternative. Loomagoo was built in three weeks and went live in November of 2008.
Our goal is to bring the social network into the classroom. We want to give our users the tools to exchange knowledge and information instantaneously, and we want to give it them for free.
Loomagoo recently released its Facebook app in integration with their new feature, My Community. With this, our users will be able to login with their Facebook accounts and promote their listings via the news feeds, view recent posts as well as incite their friends. This will prove to be pretty useful for students as they can more readily collaborate to share and assist each other in academics. Better promotion of the tools you can provide, will help both you and your peers learn and expand on new ideas.

How We're Different
Keep in mind, this site can be used for much more than books and notes. The possibilities are endless, and we created this with the intention that students would take the functionality in a direction that we never imagined. If you want a tutor, post an add, if you want to be a tutor, post an ad, if you have a question about something, post an ad. The possibilities are endless, we embrace creativity!

- Loomagoo.com reached Southwestern Oklahoma State University. One very helpful SWOSU student and former classmate of mine has been instrumental in Loomagoo’s reach outside of the New Orleans area.
- We were featured in the New Orleans City Business Journal. See article here. Getting this story was a huge milestone for us and we hope that the exposure will lead to more coverage in the future.
- Development began on Facebook
- Connect/Facebook Application. This has been our major project over the past month. We’ve encountered a few hurdles, but it looks like everything is coming together. We will make an announcement when this new functionality is fully operational. Really looking forward to this!
- Our city-wide New Orleans Book Drive is taking shape. We are working alongside the New Orleans Youth Rescue Initiative (YRI) to deliver summer reading materials to underprivileged youth in the Recovery School District. Along with the New Orleans Public Libraries, we will hopefully be receiving the support of the city’s major book retailers.
- We are in the early stages of negotiations with Tulane University to make Loomagoo fully functional for their students. We are really hoping this goes through; this would be a major addition to our community. Keep your fingers crossed, more on this to come.

- "Social sites that are geared towards students are nothing new. I dare say that they must rank among the most popular community sites that you can find online. Education is the key to a better society, and we can never have enough resources of this kind. This particular one lets students not only connect but also trade old textbooks on the spot. Of course, the exchange of study guides is fully accounted for, and supplemental learning material can be readily exchanged with classmates too.” -killerstartups.com

- Loomago, a Craiglist like social network for college students that lets them share/exchange textbooks, notes as decided to expand further. The startup has released its Facebook app in integration with their new feature, My Community. With this, its users will be able to login with their Facebook accounts and promote their listings via the news feeds, view recent posts as well as incite their friends. This will prove to be pretty useful for students as they can more readily collaborate to share and assist each other in academics. I am more than hopeful that this will get a green from Facebook’s Verified Apps program.
