Life Experience
-
- Being A Valet Attendant
For the past two summers, I have been privileged with the opportunity to be able to work valet parking outside of the historic Fenway Park, where the famous Boston Red Sox play. Although the job can be sometimes frustrating and dishearten me at times, the valuable experiences I have gained from clients, customers, and employees is second to none. At the begging of each Sox game, we are expected to fill the lot every night. With the "maximum" capacity at 93, we have a lot of cars to move. Working as a team of four is the only possible way to get everyone’s car delivered on time. Throughout the past couple months we have identified each other’s strengths, and weaknesses and have been able to capitalize on all our strengths. As team of four, we can squeeze in upwards of almost 100 cars a night. The hardest part of our job is convincing people to leave their keys with us, once the all the self-park spots are full. This allows moving any car at any time to ensure everyone can get out when needed. Although I have been screamed and yelled at, I have found that I can learn to communicate with all types of people. When things sometimes do wrong in the parking lot, I have learned to keep my composure and calm them down. At the end of hard nights work, I always let out sigh of relief from the seemingly never-ending stress. Yet, the experiences of how to work together as team, and be a leader at the same time are invaluable. I gain a life experience, every time I interact with people. This opportunity has given me something I never expected, a chance to learn from all types of people. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and embrace it.
