School Description
Salisbury University, located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, is a regionally accredited, four-year comprehensive university offering 54 distinct undergraduate and graduate degree programs. We are 30 miles from the beaches and 2.5 hours from Washington, DC and Baltimore.
Salisbury University is a premier comprehensive Maryland public university, offering excellent, affordable education in undergraduate liberal arts, sciences, pre-professional and professional programs, including education, nursing, social work, and business, and a limited number of applied graduate programs. Our highest purpose is to empower our students with the knowledge, skills, and core values that contribute to active citizenship, gainful employment, and lifeālong learning in a democratic society and interdependent world.
The University recruits exceptional and diverse faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students from across Maryland, the United States, and around the world, supporting all members of the University community as they work together to achieve the institution’s goals and vision. As our student body grows, so too does our campus. In fall2008, we will be thrilled to open the new Teacher Education and Technology Center. This will be followed by the completion of SU's first parking garage in August 2009 and, soon after, thecampus will break ground on a new home for the Perdue School of Business. Once again, Salisbury was ranked this year among the topschools in the nation’s leading college guidebooks. This wouldnot be true were it not for our exceptional faculty, who continued this year to amass awards and recognition fromacross the state and the country.

And SU earned the University System of Maryland Regents’ Award for Excellencewas awarded to three professors, and one professor washonored with the USM Elkins Endowed Professorship.
Many SU students take advantage of studying abroad, but a growing trend at SU is to make spring break a travel and learning break—and they often make a global difference in the process. SU students with the Global Program Service Group assisted some 37 foster children in Cartago, Costa Rica. The University students planned activities and played with the children while also helping clean the foster home facility and assisting the youngsters with hygiene from nail clipping to hair cutting. The stakes were high for 13 nursing students who traveled to Tanzania, Africa, to teach HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. Through the Global Service Corps Program they learned about the challenges faced by those who had already contracted the disease in one of the world’s five poorest countries. Students of SU’s London and the Lakes Honors course traveled to London and the English Lake District. There they followed in the footsteps of great writers, such asWilliam Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Thomas DeQuincey. Bringing the hands-on experience back to the classroom.
