    School Description Indicator

Among Skidmore College graduates, you'll find young men and women prepared to both think critically, and to apply skills practically and professionally in a variety of settings. The Skidmore curriculum encourages creative work within the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities-it champions creative thought across traditional disciplinary bounds and extends that into less traditional liberal arts programs, such as Management and Business, Education and Social Work. Skidmore's distinctive integration of the traditional liberal arts with preparation for professions, careers, and community leadership equips our students exceptionally well for excellence in today's increasingly complex world.

Skidmore College is a highly selective, nationally ranked, co-educational, liberal arts college. Students accepted during the past two years achieved a median score of 1250.

U.S. News and World Report names Skidmore one of the 50 Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the nation. Newsweek cites Skidmore as one of the "All-Round Gems." Barron's Guide to Colleges rates Skidmore as "highly competitive". Skidmore is included on Kaplan/Newsweek's list of the "25 New Ivies."

Skidmore's curriculum is distinguished in its balanced offerings of a broad array of B.A. degree programs in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, and B.S. degree programs in business, studio art, education, dance, theater, and social work, all offered within a liberal arts framework.

The top 6 majors are Business, English, Studio Art, Government, Psychology, and Biology.

Skidmore emphasizes an integration of theory and practice, so education in the classroom, laboratory, and studio is enhanced with co-curricular and field experiences. Skidmore students have significant internship experience, and exposure to the workplace.

Many Skidmore students study and travel abroad, gaining an international perspective that is especially beneficial in today's global marketplace.

A strong tradition of campus involvement and volunteerism provides Skidmore students with opportunities to develop effective leadership skills. Skidmore students are engaged in over 80 clubs and organizations, a competitive NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Athletics program with 19 varsity teams, and 25 intramural and club sports.

Skidmore students hail from nearly every state in the nation, and nearly 20 foreign countries. Many come from areas along the Boston-Washington corridor, and wish to live and work there, while many others are interested in opportunities throughout the United States, and abroad, and look forward to relocating.
